Designing a next-generation biotech platform with Cellanome

A new frontier in experimental automation

After partnering with Native, Cellanome successfully launched a next-generation biotech instrument with fully integrated platform, one that can make the multimodal observations necessary to understand the dynamics of living cells. This advanced system brought together four core components: instrument, flow cells, assays, and cloud platform - requiring a highly cohesive design approach.

The challenge spanned industrial design, consumables and digital experience. Native's integrated model, blending physical and digital design, with robust engineering capabilities, was perfectly positioned to address such a task. This cohesive approach, blending tightly with the Cellanome team, was able to align global engineering, user experience and commercial teams, reducing complexity and accelerating decision-making.

Partnering early in the project, Native were also able to assist with customer engagement and investor relations. Cellanome is now well positioned to grow with speed, clarity, and confidence.

"The result was a testament to Native's capability to deliver an outstanding, world class design solution."

The starting point was a novel biotechnology system, capable of measuring biology at unprecedented resolution — however, turning this innovation into a usable, manufacturable, and investor-ready product was a significant challenge. An ambitious platform from the outset, it needed to combine instrumentation, consumables and software to simplify complex assays and capture dynamic biology over time.

To develop such an bold new product, Cellanome faced complex coordination across hardware and software — all while working with globally distributed teams and an accelerated launch roadmap.

Close partnership with Native led to a full-system design transformation that brought clarity, speed, and alignment to the product development process.

To support investor relations and early market traction, Native developed high-fidelity appearance prototypes that made the product vision tangible—used in trade shows, funding pitches, and internal reviews.

In parallel, the design, engineering and digital teams delivered production-grade CAD models, CMF specifications, and detailed UX/UI flows, enabling downstream engineering, manufacturing, and digital build with confidence and precision.

Throughout the engagement, our team worked in lockstep with Cellanome’s internal stakeholders and manufacturing partners, ensuring real-time collaboration, design continuity, and executional clarity—from early sketch through to manufacturing readiness.
